Silent cry for help
Directed by Nienke Glas
Synopsis:
From one day to the next, Yuna retreats into herself, showing no emotion and avoiding contact. Her sister Aleyna is distraught, feeling Yuna's estrangement from her surroundings. Desperate to help, Aleyna discusses therapy with her partner, recalling the past blame placed on her by Yuna's therapist. Unexpectedly, Yuna's friends Tony and Rox arrive, briefly igniting hope for Aleyna. Yet, they only return a borrowed bag, reluctant to engage further. Disheartened, Aleyna confronts her partner, asserting Yuna's priority and ending their relationship. Yuna, moved by the confrontation, finally reaches out to Aleyna for help, marking the first step toward recovery and acceptance of aid.
Director Statement:
Stille Noodkreet sheds light on the ones who have your back and support you no matter how bad your struggles with mental health might get. The film is a highly personal story written to be a thank you note to those who did everything in their power to help out even if it meant making big sacrifices. Stille Noodkreet relates to social impact filmmaking as it depicts how struggles with mental health not only take a toll on the one suffering from it but also their surroundings. It shows how people react differently to someone struggling with mental health: some might distance themselves and walk away while others choose to stay. The latter might be a much smaller group but they are definitely there. In this way Stille Noodkreet helps raise awareness on the topic of mental health, an important issue to this day especially among young adolescents.
