Maureen graduated in 2000 from The Northern Media School - Sheffield UK as a director, editor and production designer. She pursued a career in making independent short films. Specialising in making and using film to create impact and awareness. She feels passionate about democratising cinema: giving access to all audiences. Using film as a tool for social change. In 2006 she started the first Solar Cinema in the Netherlands, a mobile cinema that powers its equipment with 100% solar power. Taking film to the most cultural deprived areas in the world. In 2009 her foundation Solar World Cinema was set up, and currently there are eleven solar powered cinemas running across the globe. Sharing the same mission. Since 2020 she is the director of Eindhoven based creative hub for filmmakers BROET and coördinator of the Playgrounds talent development programme Next. Advising filmmakers on the next steps in their career. Always challenging them to think about reaching an audience and using film as a tool for social change.
