Mel Kalfanti

My professional interests revolve around cinema, writing and youth work. I work as curator and festival coordinator of Positively Different Short Film Festival in Athens, Greece, a festival that aims to create space for intersectional stories and marginalized communities; additionally, I work as a curator for the environmental film festival Zagori Planet in Zagoriwood, an organisation that holds cinema workshops and thematic festivals in rural northwestern Greece, aiming to bring cinema to socially and geographically isolated communities. I freelance as a writer for various magazines, writing on social and political issues. I have worked extensively as a youth worker, particularly as an educator on gender and intersectionality issues. Finally, I am a PhD researcher in the field of Social Anthropology and Gender Studies, in the University of Thessaly. I am based in Heraklion, Crete and in my free time, I like to work on my garden, take long walks with my dog and cycle by the sea.
