Hing
Directed by Agnes Milla Bereczki
Synopsis:
This short experimental film is called "Hing" (the word for 'soul' in Estonian) in reference to old animistic beliefs honouring every object as one in possession of a soul and as part of a greater system. It was the filmmakers goal to give the mountain world an almost human face with the ability to see and feel. Delicate porcelain masks of human faces were put on plants and mountains to make it possible for the viewer and environment to look at each other.
Director Statement:
This film aims to promote an old way of life when nature was seen as one possessing integrity and intelligence. It's the filmmakers message that if such beliefs would be followed again then the natural course of being would be to only take from nature what is necessary and for everything taken something should be given back.
