Safe Space

Directed by Nurcan Çoban

Synopsis:
This documentary discusses how LGBTIQA+ people experience Istanbul's streets and nightlife in terms of a safe space, through the unique and at the same time shared experiences of queers from different backgrounds.

Director Statement:
Safety is a basic need and right of all humans. However, in a hetero-patriarchal nationalist society, some marginalized groups and communities do not have this basic right at all, as is the case in Turkey. This short documentary tries to raise awareness about how some marginalized people don't have a safe space and how they fight to have one.
