Eco-anxiety

Directed by Sanaa Estibal

Synopsis:
In the throes of eco-anxiety, a young woman starts to dance. Her bodily movements merge with natural landscapes as she struggles to deal with her sudden bursts of despair, quiet feelings of hope and growing anger.

Director Statement:
An increasing number of young people suffer from eco-anxiety. Their anxiety stems from feelings of despair, impending doom, hopelessness and powerlessness in the face of climate change. With my short film, I wish to raise awareness about this mental health issue. I hope it will encourage climate change experts to discuss environmental concerns in a solution-oriented way when speaking with children and teenagers. This will help limit the rise of eco-anxiety disorders and help younger generations feel somewhat hopeful about their future.
